Yes, that sounds like an extreme, even negative statement. Yet, it is reality. If we are born in North America, there are certain rules we are immediately expected to follow. North American culture is unique to North America, and we notice when someone comes from another country, even if they look the same as us. We notice by their behaviours, their beliefs, their language, and perhaps even their understanding of right and wrong.
The old adage stands, "When in Rome, do as the Romans." We are expected to conform and submit. If we do not agree, then there are channels that we are directed to use to attempt to affect change. And it is there, that we may begin to see our worlds change around us.
Most of our rules, regulations, and laws appear reasonable. Many are based on some past experience where people were directly harmed, in some form or another. This safe, new normal, is how we got to where we are, now.
When we look at our world now, it seems there is nowhere we can turn and look and not see some example of a law that is intended to ensure we behave and conduct ourselves in a certain way.
What we find now, is that many of these old, sometimes hundreds of years old laws, rules, or regulations, are no longer relevant. Perhaps they even constrict our growth into the future, as we attempt to find ever more beneficial ways that we can conduct ourselves, both individually and within groups.
Some believe that self and group governance needs to be changed, or at least laws need to be changed to give more opportunity for individuals and groups to govern themselves, as they see fit.
The following video from the SELC (Sustainable Economies Law Centre) goes through a lot of aspects of Governance that are being investigated for change:
